PROGRAM

Monday, March 12, 2007

  • Welcome
Pierre Willems, Head of Local Clearing & Custody Product, BNP Paribas

  • Stuff that Works: Consumer-firms' market data executives discuss how they manage their teams and their external relationships to provide timely, accurate financial information to their firms' investment professionals and customers. We will focus in detail on the tools and techniques that they use to manage their firms' acquisition and usage of financial information.

The topics to be addressed include:

    • How have the challenges changed for them over the last few years?
    • Managing relationships with internal and external customers and vendors.
    • What software and systems help them do their jobs? What more is needed?
    • What role does, or will, outsourcing play?
    • Staffing and human resources issues

    Moderator:
    Andrew Delany, Publisher, A-Team

Panelists: David Berry, Barclays Capital, Didier Schnurr, Natixis, Mark Usiak, UBS

  • Update from the Financial Data Vendors Association
    Galaad Baudry, Thomson Financial

  • The Course of the Exchange, and Other Things: An examination of Market Data throughout the ages. How far have we come since the broker John Castang, issued his first price list in London in 1698? Titled "The Course of the Exchange, and other things" this sheet was published, twice weekly on Tuesday and Friday. Today, Investment Decision Making is based on Market Data delivered in "real-time", which has led to the perception that it is possible to offer complete market transparency and best execution to all. Is this realistic?

Speaker: Martin Sexton, London Market Systems

  • Corporate Actions: Ask any two people what they mean by corporate actions and you're likely going to get 5 different answers. This discussion will focus on Corporate Actions: the definition and scope - what's included, what's not; the commercial aspects that are emerging; and what FISD can do to help its members deal with these issues.

    Panelists:
Tony de Lucovich, Program Manager, TAP Solutions
Martijn Groot, Manager Product Management, Asset Control
Tim Taylor, Lead Standards Specialist, S.W.I.F.T. SCRL
    Karl Landolt, Telekurs Financial

  • Lunch

  • MiFID and Symbology: MiFID raises the spectre of numerous new liquidity pools and sources of real-time market data. To meet their transparency and best execution obligations under MiFID, financial institutions will need to be able to uniquely identify securities across diverse data sources. This challenge is particularly acute in front-office environments where real-time data is displayed. Data vendors and financial institutions' display applications will need to convey this information subject to "screen real estate" limitations.
    • Does unique identification of a security require the identification of the location where it is listed, traded, cleared & settled?
    • How will issue symbology support these needs?
    • What technical and display limitations does the industry face?
    • How will distributors integrate different sources of market depth data?
    • Can standards be utilised (e.g., ISIN and MIC) to uniquely identify issues?

This panel will seek to predict what the post-MiFID world will look like and identify the stumbling blocks that the market data industry must address. The panelists (and the audience) will discuss potential approaches to these issues including desk-top display and the use of standards.
